Ezra Pound Cake

The guacamole is a tasty blend of avocado and edamame.

I’m a sucker for looks. Maybe it’s my romantic writer’s soul or my appreciation for aesthetic beauty in my surroundings, but when  something catches my eye and holds me breathless, I’m gone. I’m like that with fashion, flowers, magazine covers, typography, and, of course, food. When I come across a really drool-inducing, appetite-inspiring photo of food, I will literally stop and feast my eyes. For a while. And then I’ll fantasize about eating it. Weird and totally geeky, I know. You’ll know what I’m talking about once you visit Ezra Pound Cake. It’s a food blog run by Rebecca Crumb, whose story about how she went from unsatisfied writer to food blogger is a great one, one that I can totally relate to. The photos on her blog are vibrant, captivating, and will trigger your hunger pangs.

Ezra Pound Cake has an awesome Meatless Monday section where you’ll find lots of ideas for that one day of the week that you should (really, you should) be going herbivore. I really enjoy reading Rebecca’s writing; it’s humorously self-deprecating and full of little cooking tips (many of her recipes also list nutritional information). The post for this Big Fat Vegan Taco Salad is hilarious! One of my goals in life is to try a vegan diet, and this salad hit the spot. Since it’s so good for the body and soul, I could eat it all the time.

T-Bone! If it’s good enough for Don Draper…

And…as much as I love my veggies, I also love my meat! (My husband always tells me I’m complicated.) I don’t know if Rebecca’s blog got me thirsting for a juicy steak or it was the other way around. All I know is I came across this recipe for a Mad Men-inspired T-Bone Steak: Cooked 2 Ways that satisfied my craving. I recommend that you definitely try the freezing trick, as it takes your average grilled steak on the BBQ to a whole ‘nother level. There are more recipes in EPC’s Mad Men recipe series that are worth a taste, as well.

This salad is rich in vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, and antioxidants.

I love pistachios, and when I find a non-dessert recipe that incorporates them, I think Bravo, well done. This Whole Wheat Couscous with Nectarines and Pistachios did not disappoint. It tastes like it looks: it’s refreshing,  citrusy, peppery from the dijon dressing, and there’s a slight crispness from the watercress and nectarines. The pistachios add an antioxidant punch with their crunch and nutty flavour. I had this salad as a side dish but you can easily fill up on it on its own. If you’re looking for more meal ideas, or just want to look at super-delicious, good-looking food, you should head over to EPC’s recipe index. You won’t be disappointed. And trust me, you’ll come back for more.
